Initially developed to prevent coffee spills for Parkinson’s patients,
Hot Straw has drawn mass-market appeal from both the healthcare community and consumers alike.
Dawn Miracle, Founder and CEO, spent much of her career in clinical research helping Parkinson’s patients overcome daily challenges. The disease impacted her patients’ ability to enjoy simple daily pleasure such as drinking hot coffee because of tremors and shaking, often of the hands and arms. “We knew we were onto an interesting concept based on the feedback from our recent online sales and the response in the marketplace,” said Miracle.
In development of the Hot Straw for her patients, Miracle learned that regular straws leech harmful plasticizers into coffee and other hot beverages. Miracle said, “Most straws on the marketplace are not FDA approved and have been known to dissolve plastic particles and other chemicals into beverages.” The Hot Straw is BPA-free and FDA approved.
The unique shape of the Hot Straw was created to prevent spillage because it is sized to fit perfectly into the travel lid on to-go coffee. The straws are manufactured and packaged in the USA and are dishwasher safe for reuse. Dentists recommend Hot Straw to patients who drink coffee because the Hot Straw protects the teeth from being stained by dark liquids, coffee, tea and cola drinks.
