Las Vega Coffee Experience

Las Vegas Coffee Culture

I just spent 5 days in Las Vegas. My wife and I had a great time. We saw some shows, saw some sights and visited a wedding chapel. We had beautiful weather and we were looking for a nice cafe where we could grab a cup of coffee, watch some people and catch some rays.  Boy were we disappointed. We can sum up the coffee experience in Las Vegas in one word - "Starbucks".  When you land at McCarran Airport you are greeted by a Starbucks. When we got to the Luxor we passed not 1 but 2 starbucks on our way to our room.

I need to share with you that I like Starbucks".  They make a good product and a decent but not great "Cafe Americano". But I enjoy the experiencing the unique touches of the local baristas whereever I travel.  Not in LV. We walked the strip, visited most of the major hotels and both of the outlet malls.  I counted a least 30 Starbucks and exaclty "ZERO" independant coffee shops.  If you count McDonalds there are 2 coffee shops in LV.

Now I'll share my Starbucks experience. It was pretty good. We did purchase a "Las Vegas" coffee cup for our collection. The service was excellent and beyond my typical experience. I had a litte trouble paying 30-40% more for everything but I appreciate that the rent along the strip is pretty dear.
The McCafe that used to be on the strip seems to have gone bust. Given that it was next to a wholesale show tour reseller and a souvenier shop that doesn't surprise me. It's not really a cafe sort of environment.

What I'd like to see.  On Freemont street I think that I little cafe bistro should do really well.  There are lots of tourists looking for a place to grab a cup and enjoy the sights. I have to think that if there are 30 Starbucks that there are enough customers. Perhaps someone could open up a wedding chapel cafe right next to the GOLD and Silver Pawn Shop next to the Elvis Wedding chapel.
