Company Background

At Renewables, we’re passionate about what we do. We think you will be too.

The founders have over 25 years of combined industry experience in renewable resource based product development, applications, and business development. With an unparalleled knowledge of raw material and finished product suppliers, they have the insight and industry relationships to provide a full range of products that are renewable, sustainable and compostable.

They are passionate about their products—because  they care about the earth. The commitment to the environment drives everything they do. From the direct connection with factories, to the ability to speak the native language, it all matters.

If you've been reading our blog you're probably aware that while trying to promote coffee shops and coffee shop products we've got a bit of a "Green" tilt to our posts.  Whethers it's cheering for the progress that chains are making towards using more environmentally friendly cups or processes or pointing out new growing techniques we feel it part of our responsibility to spread the word.

Process

We recently requested companies send us their products to be reviewed for our Product of the Year campaign and one of the submissions stood out, Renewables' Ripple Wall Compostable cups. We've shared their cups with a number of consumers with some specific guidelines.

How well does it perform the desired task?

"I filled the cup with boiling water fresh from the kettle and I could still comfortably hold it while sipping my tea." Grace - Mississauga

We filled each cup with boiling water and compared them to chain cups with and without sleeves and found that the Renewables Ripple Wall cup disapated the heat well enough that the cup could be held comfortably.  We found that the cup also kept the water or coffee warmer for almost twice as long as the control cups.

Does it appeal to you and why, why-not?

The thought of needing a sleeve or a second cup when purchasing a coffee seems wasteful was a common theme. Knowing that the cup could go in a "Green Bin" for composting was a regular comment.

The ribbed sides of the cup made it feel more substantial and sturdy.

"It feels like a premium product"  Ian - Toronto

Would it influence your buying preferences

The general consensus from the testers was that if they knew that a coffee shop or take out restaurant was using these cups they would be willing to spend a bit more to buy coffee or tea from that location.
