Coffee Sales could reach $750 million in 2015

From 2013 to 2014, coffee production saw a 90% drop due to rust that devastated large stretches of crops across Peru’s coffee plantations. Despite the devastation, last year 3.9 million quintals of coffee were produced and made sales of US$ 730 million.
However, this year has brought a positive wave of recovery for coffee crops as infestation has been cleared throughout Peru.
Considering the improvements, Peru’s 2015 coffee production could reach 5 million quintals, according to Deputy Minister of Development, Agricultural Infrastructure and Irrigation, Jorge Luis Montenegro.
This year coffee production is estimated to grow 28% compared to 2014 and be worth US$ 750 million.
“The projection for 2015 indicates we will reach 5 million quintals, which reference value is US$ 750 million, considering we are experiencing a recovery phase and following a sustained renovation plan […],” the Deputy Minister told Andina news agency.
24,000 hectares have been replenished and a remaining 80,000 will be revitalized, according to the National Plan for Coffee Plantations Renewal.
The coffee is slowly replenishing and with that the coffee industry is working to promote their revitalized products.
Montenegro announced that from April 9-12, coffee producers from Junin and Pasco will be participating in an international coffee fair known as “Specialty Coffee Event of the Year.” The event is organized by the Specialty Coffee Association of America and will be held at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, USA.
Peruvian representatives from 12 different organizations are set to attend. Six of which are supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation and the rest by their respective municipalities.
